How Interns Change the Dynamic of an Office

With the end of July came the end of enFocus' internship program. Eight weeks sure did fly by! This was my first time experiencing interns in the office, and they changed its dynamic in so many positive ways.

New Energy

The interns brought so much new energy to the office. Perhaps that's why the office coffee supply was disappearing a lot faster than normal! They were excited about their projects and eager to learn, and it was great to get to know so many of them throughout the summer.

enFocus has a cool thing called “pods”, where team members who don't work directly together meet weekly to share successes and talk through challenges. I had the opportunity to lead one of the intern pods, and I loved hearing about their excitement, initiative, and the ways they were approaching their work each week.

New Perspectives

I had four interns across my projects this summer, and it was wonderful to have fresh eyes on work I've been doing for a long time. They brought new ideas to the table and challenged me to look at my work differently.

enFocus hires both high school and college interns from a variety of majors and backgrounds, and their perspectives make our team stronger. Having interns bring their own experiences and ideas to our projects is a great reminder of how much we can learn from one another.

New Firsts in the Region

I love our region, but it can be easy to fall into a routine. It was fun to watch many of our interns experience the South Bend-Elkhart region for the first time!

I tried to do my part in sharing some of my favorite local spots. I brought groups of interns to The Purple Porch and Taqueria Chicago, two of my favorite South Bend spots. Summer is my favorite time of year in South Bend, and I'm glad our interns got to experience a bit of what makes the region so special.

This year’s interns brought so much energy and excitement to our team. I’m excited to see what they do next, and I hope some of them might find their way back to the region. And, of course, I can’t wait to see who joins our team next summer!
